Childcare Update

As you may already know, the Health and Welfare Fund Office began administering the non-network (satellite) center portion of the childcare benefit as of April 1, 2002.If you use a non-network center, you will be reimbursed up to $10 per child per day, up to 5 days per week at a licensed day care facility. Your childcare benefit covers day care facilities, summer camps and before and after school programs.

Childcare services at home-based day care centers are NOT reimbursable since these centers are not required to meet the same criteria for licensing by the Department of Public Welfare (“DPW”) or respective state agency. Childcare services at only those centers which are LICENSED by the DPW or respective state licensing agency are reimbursable under the Plan. Also, please note that, if your child attends a summer camp program, that program must also be LICENSED by the DPW or respective state licensing agency in order to qualify as a reimbursable expense under the non-network childcare benefit. Although a center may be licensed by the DPW to provide day care services, it does not necessarily mean they are licensed for their summer camp programs. Again, the Fund cannot reimburse any center or program that is not licensed by the Department of Public Welfare or respective state agency.

Anytime you change a center you must contact the Fund Office. There is also a 90-day claim filing deadline for non-network childcare benefit reimbursement. Network Childcare

There are currently 15 network centers available for Fund participants to use for their childcare needs. A registration fee, equivalent to one week's tuition of $30.00 is required at the time your child starts school. You pay only $6 for a full day, no part-time rate for children attending our designated Tot-Time Child Development Centers, Inc. The following is a list of the participating centers:
